More Wedding Traditions You Can Skip

If you wish to modernize your wedding, you may not have to go crazy looking for different ideas to do. The key might be NOT doing a few things. I mentioned a few on a previous blog “Five Wedding Traditions You Can Skip” like letting the groom see you before the wedding. However, when it comes to updating the event itself, here are a few details you might want to skip or modify in your own way.

The entrance:  Don’t have a receiving line! You don’t even have to present the bridal party one by one.  Why not choose a song for the group where you all come dancing in as Husband & Wife and start the party!

Garter & Bouquet Toss:  Let’s face it, how many of your single friends really want to stand in the middle of a dance floor and fight for the flowers.  There might be a few, but these days’ people don’t always believe they will be the next to get married if they catch that flower or garter. If you have friends that already have wedding plans, you can even call them to the dance floor and give them the garter and bouquet without putting them through the whole thing.

Skip the wedding cake: Have cupcakes, a dessert bar, an ice cream bar or a candy station.  If you are not really into the cake, entertain your guest with a different kind of sweet.

Flower Bouquet: the bride’s bouquet is conversation piece, so I don’t think it should be eliminated at all, but you can be creative with it.  Use different materials like brooches or paper flowers if that’s what you like.

Having a modern wedding is not necessarily having a lot of new things or non traditional items, it may only take modifying a few details or skipping those traditions that you don’t feel are truly necessary in your special day to make it the best ever.

Which traditions would you skip?

Till next time,
