Maleficent… more than a villain?

Have you seen the movie ‘Maleficent’ yet? I went to see it for several reasons besides the fact that the lead actress is one of my favorites, Angelina Jolie. The special effects look amazing but still, my main motivation was my curiosity as to how Disney will take one of my childhood favorite stories and turn it around by making the villain into a likeable person. I will not say much to avoid ruining the movie for those who have not seen it but, I will say it fully reaches its mission. And so, while watching before my eyes a sweet little girl turned into a villain and then into almost a hero I thought how our perception changes continually.

Though this version had its variations from the original, the fact is that even in this one at the end there is always a Prince Charming. I really enjoyed every well thought detail however, the best for me was the moral of the story, which continues to be the same… true love will always save the girl!

So, delight in true love, fairies and magical kingdoms… it’s all coming back to me now as sung by Celine Dion and I started thinking… what about taking that ‘Maleficent’ theme for a wedding? Not in a fairytale kind of way but, in a more daring approach. It would be awesome, different and a bit dark! I began looking for ideas on how to apply it and I found great options. Let’s see some abstract concepts for this theme. Enjoy!

You can add black, feathers and/or wood. Use your imagination and create your own interpretation of the ‘Maleficent’ theme. What do you think of using it as a wedding theme? Do you dare?
